Attend Women’s Circles: Why We Need to Get Sick with Dr. Sherry Salman

This talk could equally well be titled 'a state of chronic health is not good for you'. We need to get sick in order for both our bodies and our souls to learn how to heal. The body builds strength and immunity through its struggle with disease and illness. And the soul acquires depth and grace through its experience of suffering.  Resilience, a key factor in living fully and well, emerges. Understood from this perspective, illness and getting sick are not the absence of health, but rather the indispensable agents and catalysts of growth.

Dr. Sherry Salman is a Jungian psychoanalyst practicing in Rhinebeck and New York City. She is past President of the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association, a professional society and training program in Jungian analysis, where she teaches and supervises therapists. A writer and internationally recognized speaker, some of her recent publications include "Blood Payments" in Terror, Violence, and the Impulse to Destroy, and "The Creative Psyche" in The Cambridge Companion to Jung. This summer Sherry travels to South Africa for the International Congress of Analytical Psychology where she will present a keynote address, on "African Oracles and Analytic Attitudes".
