Life is both Light and Dark - Interview Eight: Radio Station Group WCCC It’s Tuesday morning and I get an email from Bob asking me if I have relationships with a list of advertisers. Sounds promising for a job offer. I send off my response and get another email asking me to put together my “dream” list of potential clients. Now I’m really excited. In the email exchange I mention I’ll be seeing him in the afternoon to find out he didn’t know I had the meeting scheduled with Paul. Luckily Bob is able to arrange his afternoon to accommodate my meeting and I’m off for to give my sales pitch. I walk in to have Bob and a guy I’ve never met before roll play the part of the client. Paul is sitting on the side just observing the interaction. Bob decides to be the tough guy and even tries to fluster me by calling me the wrong never, several different times during the meeting in fact. Not sure if he was surprised or not by my calm nature, but every time he tried to fluster me I remained calm. Spent too many years in NYC national advertising sales to let something small ruffle my feathers. I finish the pitch, the roll playing ends and we chat. Bob explains the purpose of the exercise is to see how I can “perform” under pressure and I did a good job. They’ll be contacting me tomorrow, Wed. I am in the clouds driving home. I am so excited about this new job. I’m not a big fan of Bob’s approach to interviewing experienced sales people, but I’ll deal with it. I really want this job and potential income. I even start rehearsing my conversation with my boss when I quit.
