Life is both Light and Dark - Radio Station WAAA; Interview Two
I get an email from Sam asking me to email his boss/
station owner, George, to schedule a time to go meet him. Sam also mentions that George is going to be
leaving on vacation soon so to get it scheduled for sometime during the
following week or it’ll have to wait at least 2 weeks, because George is going
on vacation.
I don’t hear back from George quickly so I put in a phone
call to make sure he got the email and we soon have an appointment scheduled
for the next day. I jump into my car,
excited. I’m off again on another
interview. But, this time I’m clearer
on what I want. Originally I thought I
wanted the corporate world again with the potential to make more money. But, I’ve realized my quality of life will
suffer i ...

Life is both Light and Dark – Friday
I get a call from Sam in the morning double-checking the
time for the press conference. He’s
rearranged his schedule to make it. The
advertiser having the press conference is not a fan of radio advertising, but
he’s a very big advertiser and showing up can help their case.
I have finally found a way to put a smile back on my
face. I arrive at the event happy to be
there and excited to have another opportunity to position myself as a competent
sales person with some good connections.
I walk in the door right behind Sam.
Perfect timing.
We catch up a little.
I get to introduce him to several key people. The event is actually very nic ...

I am at a loss for what to do now. But, I’m not going to spend too much time
mourning. I have got to figure
something out. And, I’ve got to see if
I can find something good about this major disappointment. However, first thing I’m going to do is call
Radio Stations WAAA and WBBB to check in.
I reach the sales manager at WAAA. (I’m going to call him Sam.)
Sam is a great guy. He’s happy hearing from me. I ask him if I’ll run into him at a press
conference the next day. He didn’t know
anything about it, so I give him the details.
He’s going to try to make it.
Good, I think I’ve got the chance to have another face-to-face with
Sam.
I leave messages for both guys at WBBB but I don’t hear back
from them immediately.& ...

Life is both Light and Dark - Wednesday
I’m not sure this day is ever going to end. By afternoon I email Paul to see what’s going on and he said it would probably take a few days. Around close of business, I get an email from Bob, “You passed the audition. Please hang in there a few more days. I’m really slammed.”
Okay, this still sounds really good to me.

Life is both Light and Dark - Interview Eight: Radio Station Group WCCC
It’s Tuesday morning and I get an email from Bob asking me if I have relationships with a list of advertisers. Sounds promising for a job offer. I send off my response and get another email asking me to put together my “dream” list of potential clients. Now I’m really excited. In the email exchange I mention I’ll be seeing him in the afternoon to find out he didn’t know I had the meeting scheduled with Paul. Luckily Bob is able to arrange his afternoon to accommodate my meeting and I’m off for to give my sales pitch.
I walk in to have Bob and a guy I’ve never met before roll play the part of the client. Paul is sitting on the side just observing the interaction. Bob decides to be the tough guy and even tries to fluster me by calling me the wrong never, several different times during the meeting in fact. Not sure if he was surprised or not by my calm nature, but every time he tried to fluster me I remained calm. Spent too ma ...

Life is both Light and Dark - Interview Seven: Radio Station Group WCCC
I arrive a few minutes ahead of time all excited about my interview with Bob and eager to work for a company with several stations. Bob had said he had about 30 minutes to spend with me and we talk for 45. I had noticed my resume on his desk with a big A written up in the corner. The interview goes great and Bob tells me I’ve made it on to the next round. Okay, what’s the next round? He gives me a case study and asks me to develop a sales presentation and write a radio script for the next meeting. I can take as long as I want to develop the pitch, but I’m eager so going to do it ASAP.
I see Paul on my way out and tell him that I’ll be writing the presentation over the weekend. Paul said he had heard Bob was doing this, but this was the first time for him. We agree I’ll give him a call to schedule the presentation because Bob told me I would present to both of them and perhaps a third person.
I spend my entire weekend writi ...
